We are pleased to present The Kawartha Pine Ridge School Board's Transportation Administrative Procedures.
On behalf of the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board (KPR) served by Student Transportation Services of Central Ontario (STSCO), I would like to provide students and families with information on special program transportation. This information is intended to assist you in making enrolment decisions.
Each School Board offers a variety of specialized or alternative programs aimed at serving students and helping them succeed. Particularly at the secondary school level, the Boards have specialized programs (sometimes called high skill majors or pathway to success initiatives). Often, such programs are offered at a centralized facility which serves a larger region which may cover two or more individual school boundary areas. In turn, for some programs of this type, the Boards offer transportation to the students who are accepted.
As with all service provided, STSCO’s goal is to ensure safe, effective and efficient transport for eligible students. The planning and offering of regional program transportation can be challenging due to the fact that, where such transportation is offered, eligible students are often few in number and spread over a large geographical area. These factors often translate into the use of longer bus routes, both in terms of distance travelled and time spent in transport.
Therefore, students and their families who are interested in enrolling in transportable regional programs offered at a school other than their home school (see list of examples by Board below) should be aware that their route may be longer than would otherwise be the case. For example, students living the furthest from their school of choice may have routes which are 1.5 hours or more in length, one-way in the morning and in the afternoon.
This clarification is provided in order that students and families will be able to make informed decisions regarding school of choice prior to a commitment being made.
